“Councils offer value for money” say auditors

The Statement of Accounts for North Dorset District Council, West Dorset District Council and Weymouth & Portland Borough Council have been given a clean bill of health by external auditors KPMG.

Every year the three councils, who share a single workforce, must review the effectiveness of their governance systems and produce an Annual Governance Statement.

The Annual Governance Statement must be published alongside a financial statement, known as the Statement of Accounts.

The Statement of Accounts shows the councils’ activities for the year and the financial position of the councils at the year end.

The accounts have been subject to external audit by KPMG over the summer.

KPMG presented their final report to the councils’ Audit Committees on 30 July.  The committees were then also asked to formally adopt the accounts.

Cllr Anthony Alford, Leader of West Dorset District Council said: “We are really pleased to have received an unqualified value for money opinion on our council’s accounts.

“This gives our work a seal of approval. It shows we are working well to secure economy, efficiency and effectiveness in our use of resources.”
